Bifidobacterium infantis

Bifidobacterium infantis is now taxonomically classified as Bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis, a subspecies of B. longum, but is still commonly referred to as Bifidobacterium infantis in research and daily use.

Four key strains, two lost species – a stable microbiome

With L. reuteri and B. infantis, this set contains two clearly identified Lost Species – microbes that have largely disappeared from modern gut ecosystems. L. gasseri is known for its role in weight regulation and mucosal protection, while B. subtilis, as a spore-former, is exceptionally stable and supports both gut barrier function and the immune system. Together they form a strong combination for a resilient microbiome.

4-Strain Yogurt: L. reuteri, L. gasseri, B. subtilis & B. infantis

This blend combines two of the most important Lost Species (Limosilactobacillus reuteri and Bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis) with the probiotic all-rounder Lactobacillus gasseri and the traditional spore-former Bacillus subtilis. The result is a yogurt that goes far beyond the classical limits of probiotics.

All four strains support the microbiome in different ways and act through the gut-brain axis throughout the body. L. reuteri, for example, stimulates the release of oxytocin, the “bonding and healing hormone”, while B. subtilis protects the intestinal mucosa and produces enzymes that aid digestion.

What happens with re-culturing?

A finished yogurt can be used several times as a starter.
However, over multiple generations the culture may change. Spontaneous mutations, contamination, or the selection of faster-growing subspecies can reduce its effectiveness. Dr. William Davis, who developed the method, recommends starting fresh with new capsules after no more than 20 batches. This ensures that the physiological activity of the bacteria is maintained.

Why 20 generations?

Food microbiology studies show that lactic acid bacteria can undergo genetic changes after around 10 to 30 passages.

Therefore, we recommend starting fresh with new capsules after 20 batches at the latest to ensure that the bacteria can fully unfold their effects.
